85 auto rear end rpo code clarification?
i found the rpo codes in the car and looked them up on a site. it said that i had 3.07 gears, but it also said i had the performance gear package. are they one and the same, or does one contradict the other?
i'm confused too. I have an auto 85, so I know I have the dana 36. The rpo codes say "G92" which is the performance axle ratio. but supposedly all the dana 36 are a 2.52 or something like that.... confusing... i don't know what my gears are either, just that I have a dana 36. any help would be appreciated.
If your rpo's have G92 in them you have the performance ratio that was available the year of your car my 95 vert has this option and mine are 3.07s but in some years like 90 or so G92 could have meant 2.73 instead of 3.07.
I could look it up but I'm lazy lol SOOOO what you need to do is crawl up under the car look at the diff itself the ratio should be stamped on there.
Rear end RPOs, 101 again. Different year, engine, transmission and sometimes body style, cars came with different standard rear axle ratios. "G92" only designates that the subject car has the "performance" ratio for THAT car. As the standard ratio varies with the car, so does the "performance" ratio. Unless you just happen to know what the standard and performance ratios were for a given car, "G92" only means that the car has the optional ratio, but NOT what it is. The RPO list for any car will have a ratio designator, whether the car has the "G92" ratio or not. If you find a "G92" on your RPO sheet, smile and be happy whatever it is, it's the "performance ratio". THEN, check out the RATIO designator to determine what ratio you really have. My car has 3.07s with auto and it ISN'T the "G92".

RACE ON!!!
that's just what i was thinking--both numbers are correct. one statement does not cancel the other. thanks for the info everyone, and by the way if anyone wants to know, i found the codes under the drivers side lockable storage area, typed on a plastic-covered sticker.

I bought my 85 new, and if I remember correctly there were only two ratios available at that time. 3.07 in a automatic would be the performance ratio and the only ratio in a stick.
