Default waterpump

I have 55k on my 95 and with the problems associated with the opti-spark and water and with the thing sitting next to the water pump, should I think about replacing the pump at about 60k. On other cars this seems to be about the mileage for a change or do corvettes get longer use. Thank you.

I'm with you, I have a '95 with 66K miles, and I am waiting for my new Opti and WP as we speak...no leak in my WP yet, but I am not taking any chances...

My opti failed at about 70k and the water pump was perfectly fine.

With your later opti you have less to fear from a weeping water pump.

OTOH if it's worth the time and effort for a little piece of mind, it isn't that hard or that expensive to change.

If you do decide to replace the WP, I'd think about going ahead and pulling the opti and checking it out to make sure it is healthy.

I changed both pump and Opti-spark when the transmission retired at 115,000. These were both original parts along with the rest of the ignition system, including spark plugs. The pump and Opti-spark did not fail. This is Northern Cali, so that may have some influence. No salt and snow. I have a 95 Polo Green A4.

I did check around at some chevy service shops and price for wp and optispark is about a $1200 installed. Would like to do this myself but doubt my skill and space is limited. I like the specs on the aftermarket optispark it seems a better design but not sure if I can trust my corvette to some local shop, at least at the dealer I know they have mechanics that work on corvettes. Will this winter ever end? Getting sick of sitting around in the vette waiting for the snow to melt here in MA.

As long as you can afford to have the car down for a weekend or two, do it yourself. The level of skill required is not high. The level of patience required is moderately high. Lots of people here can help you if you get stuck.

and you can go to one of CF vendors, GMpartsdirect.com and get all your parts at half price, thats how I got my wp and opti for my 95.
When I had mine done I went with new plugs and wires.
