Have I found my problem?
Thanks to all the people who have helped me in understanding what the heck the prior owner of my car has done to it! 
After looking it over, I think my problem is a worn cam. Ironically, it was his as well. I think he was throwing things at the engine looking for more power when the cam was worn all along. He put on a TPIS Big Mouth intake with siamesed runners and a larger throttle body. Add to that 3" exhaust and low restriction mufflers and 3.73 gears... The engine makes a lot of valve chatter/rattles. Sound like loose lifters, I am guessing that the cam is worn down... It does have 135,000 miles... What is a good cam setup for a late L98? I have gotten a couple of recommendations of a ZZ-9 cam or a Hotcam. They both sound good, are there any other items that need to be put in with a cam? Timing chain, lifters, rocker arms...? Thanks again!
