I am wondering if I need to pull the trans? When I go into 2nd. I can feel the gear. Sometime, if I am not really careful, it will grind a little. If I double clutch, then no problem.
I have the exhaust and driveshaft off to do the u-joints, so the question is:
Do I have to pull the tranny to see what the problem is or can I get at it from the top.
I have never taken the transmissions out and would prefer not to unless I have to. I want to put it back together, not take more pieces off.
Any advice would be great.
How clean is your clutch fluid...?
I had this symptom it was sticky release bearing.... after changing the clutch fluid ( to Valvoline DOT 4 brake fluid) the problem went away.
The old fluid had picked up water ,turned brown and was full of sediment. I suspect some of the sediment was causing the problem.
I have about 80K on it. I bought it almost 3 years ago, and knew the previous owner. I know he drove it a lot harder than I do.
I have not cheked the fluid, but will.
Thanks
OK, so I checked the clutch fluid. Definitely dirtier than the brake fluid, but not really bad. I also dumped the gear oil. Nothing on the plug.
How clean should the clutch fluid be?

Reason: Did more work since last posting.
I had a problem where my car was hard to get into gear sometimes. You might try changing the fluid and putting in Penzoil Syncromesh fluid and see if that helps. It worked for me ans is cheaper and easier then pulling the tranny and rebuilding it.
