Please help w/ tranny!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It seems just like yesterday I had this problem. Well actually the date I got the work done was 3/35/2004 and 9,000 miles ago. I had to get my tranny rebuild 4l60e oh yeah and it cost me $3,293.97 Well the tranny went out on me again and now I am in Michigan not California. I still have my warrenty (it was for 2 years) so now I need a good shop in the Grand Rapids area. Please any advice will be greatly appreciated.
Before you do any work on it, call the shop that did the repairs last year and ask them where they want you to take it. They may have a national warranty program. If not, they may be willing to pay for the repairs!!!!
A guy can hope

Can I rebuild your next one.
I wish you lived in Grand Rapids to help, But It was a learning ex. I will never do it again (pay that much or get ripped off). Believe me I will always consult the guys at the forum before I do anything. Thanks for asking though
Phone the shops and ask them how many vette they have worked on, once they tell you they have worked on a lot of them, ask them for some phone numbers.
Let us know how things work out.
Well at least your trans will get to the shop in one piece!
I paid about the same for my rebuild...
I took it out after 38,000, sent it to NY to be rebuilt and FED EX BROKE IT! It showed up with the case broken and want to give me $100 for the damages! The never asked about insurance and didn't fill out the declared value.
It was in a container and strapped to a pallet!
One would think that something as rugged as a transmission would make it from point A to point B in one piece.
It cost 600 dollars to ship it, and they have the nerve to ask me if I want it shipped back to me. I go WHY would I want a BROKEN transmission returned to ME!
I paid $800.00 for a 4L60E (plus my old one as a core charge and me doing all the work)
and had it built with better components.
See if you can get it built with better parts.
Ask specifically for a "beast" reaction or sun shell, more vanes on the pump, kolene steels, 9 clutch 3-4, wider drum(can be machined), with wider band(not sure what material is best ie: kevlar), shift kit, ...
I am not sure if you need a hardened input shaft or if 5 planetary pinion is better or not.
...what else should he ask for Pete?

You covered it pretty well Paul. I have no 1st hand experience with the 5 pinion planetaries. Until I break the 4 pinion, I will stick with them. They seem to hold up well. Also haven't seen an input shaft break yet. They make a sleeve that presses in between input drum and input shaft. This is a $50 part that cannot hurt. Bigger boost valve and low reverse valve are bolt ins that work well. They increase line pressure to the clutches. Blueprinting is the key. The reaction shell is "the" part that usually breaks. Beast is a must. Also make sure that you insist on a new seperator plate. oem plates wear in the check ball and accumulator areas.
