Need Help. I have a 95 Coupe. My sunvisors are bent & look like crap. Can anyone tell me how to take the visors off with out destroying anything? I know this has to be simple.
Take your top off. Look where the bolt goes and you will see a plastic cover. Take it off and you should see a stamped nut that holds the visor on. I used needle nose pliers to remove mine.
May be more involved, but after you get the cover off it should be pretty stright forward. Oh, you may need to remove the trim from the inside windshield, can't remember but I took mine off about 3 years ago.
Not sure if this applies to convertibles, but the sunvisors unbolt from the top of the windshield frame. You have to take off the roof/targa and there are some plastic covers that unscrew. Then just one bolt to free the visors, and possibly a wire for the vanity mirror lights. It's very easy to do. Mine too were exhibiting the "flop" and I got my mom of all people to open up the fabric, put in some more flexible plastic and stich back together. Works great... mothers are wonderful.
Would you be willing to part with the elbow on the left one? I broke the thread on mine overtightening it. I had to take it off to adjust the fitting for my new top. I just need the metal elbow that bolts thru the spring and retainer. The rest of the visor is still good. You can just pull it out of the old beat up visor or send me the whole thing. I'm running without a driver side visor until I can locate a new elbow.
Thanks guys. I unbolted the visor & gave it a good pull the visor came right off.
I formed a new visor out of plexiglass, heated it & gave it a slight bend were the old visor (cardboard broke). Drilled some holes & riveted the hinge to the plexiglass. Tomorrow I'm taking it to my mother-in-law to have her put some cloth on it.

Hey I'll be passing through Denton in 2 months... and I expect you to have a pair ready for me when I come by
My interior is black and I'd prefer them to have a middle extender if you can incorporate that into the design.
Just playing. That is a good idea that I may look into in the future.
Good for you. Ain't American ingenuity great?! I guess that means I don't get the elbow?!!!! I'll call Just Corvettes, (636) 947-6060. They're a salvage outfit whom I got a pass side defroster vent from. They just took apart a black interior '95. Seems they charge $20.00 for everything (small interior stuff that is).

I have a 93 coupe. The visors are an example of cutting corners. They're cardboard core with a felt cover. They don't bend well, and become dogeared after a few attempts at bending.
My very cheap temporary repair is to go to Wal-Mart and buy the CD holder that straps onto visors. It has two straps and is effectively a temporary doubler repair for the flimsy cardboard sun visor.
The CD cd visor holder is about two bucks.
Hey, it keeps the sun out of my eyes, and keeps the broken cardboard in my OEM visor from flopping around.
I've got bigger fish to fry, and I ain't a persnicketty purist.
I have a 04 Impala SS. I did think about trying to put in an extender to match the Impala but I just wanted to get back in the corvette & go. Now that I think about it I should have made a template for the visor. Looks like I could of made a little money.
I fixed mine by cutting a piece of vinyl siding 2X12inch and shaping it around the mirror leaving about 1 inch to run along the bottom side of the mirror and enough togo to the end of the flap. Now the hard part gently lift the mirror and slide the piece in between the cloth and cardboard it may take a couple of good shoves to seperate the cloth from the cardboard. Tuck the remaining piece beneath the mirror and viola good as new.
I rebuilt mine a couple of years ago. Used Masonite that you can get at almost any home improvement store. Cut them shorter and narrower and used pop rivets to reattach them to the hinge. When I had my seats recovered, I had them recover the visors with the same material along with the center console. So now they all match and look great. Best part was the cost was very resonable.
A year or so back, I found a visor repair kit on eBay which consisted of some slightly concave material similar to a Venetian blind and a set of illustrated instructions. It worked pretty well too. I made a PDF copy of the instructions which I'd be happy to forward to anyone interested. Just send me a PM with your email address....

I used his instructions to get started. Even though is was for a lighted mirror it would not work as instructions said.If you have a lighted mirror the cavity underneath makes it impossible to thread it under it( in my case anyway) so I just cut out a piece to fit at the bottom edge of mirror without going under it.Like I said I used vinyl siding as it was the suggested thickness. Mabey a thinner material could thead under the mirror but my visor is stiff now.Only downside is after lifting the mirror it will not go all the way back down.Mabey it will over time. Broke the pass side switch they are fragile so be careful.

Hmm...I've got lighted mirrors and it worked for me...
Thanks for the instructions tobijohn! Now I know what I'll be working on this weekend!
You're welcome. However, from experience I wonder if some other material than the venetian blind stock might work better. Someone in one of the earlier threads on the subject suggested using those cheapie plastic rulers and I'm thinking that might be a better solution...
I sure could use those instructions. (craig@maililng.com)

I had made many of the kits and gave them away in the "pay it forward" threads. I flat ran out of the material I had. Tobijohn had sent the pdf file to me and descibed the material of which I found something that worked. Plastic window shades about 1/16" thick by 1 3/4" wide by 11 3/4" long. If you want a copy of the instructions PM me your email and I'll email a copy.
