Default Tall valve covers???

How tall of a valve cover can I run on my 85 before clearance issues? It's a normal deck height 400. Also if I am using it mostly on the street, do I need to install any small baffels for the breathers or PCV valve or anything?

I tried to put a tall valve cover on my 85 and it hits the wiper motor. If it is a street car i would run the pcv valve and use a breather in the pass. side

I used a set of Proform tall covers on my 85. They hit the wiper motor cover slightly but haven't had any issue yet. I'd definitely go with baffles. My 406 pulls a lot of oil from the valve covers and i HAVE baffles. Had to add a separator to stop oil from contaminating the intake charge.

Separator? What exactly does that mean? I assume it is in addition to the baffle.

LOL.....a separator in my case is a gutted compressor filter. The oil will drop out of the air stream and accumulate in the filter housing which has a small valve to drain it. Usually have to drain it evey 1000 miles or so.

P.S. Nice covers Larry

I used a set of these GM Performance valve covers on my 408 and they have the baffles in them..no oil consumption problems with my pcv system. I did have to trim the plastic cover on the wiper motor slightly but everything works.

They are the short version..the GM performance part number is 12480127. I think they are like 3 to 3.5" tall but I can measure them this weekend if you want. They still require a slight mod to the wiper though...

eguyette85, do you have roller rockers? Any clearance issues there? Those are exactly what I am looking for. I want to make sure they clear my pro mags. Very nice job btw!

Hey, Those are my valve covers
Mine are mid height - purchased from Superior Chevrolet and I had Superior powder coat them.

BillDavis83, sorry about hi jacking your thread, but there are three heights. Short - medium & tall. I will have to see if I can find the part number for my covers. - I had to modify my wiper motor case slightly and use studs w/nuts for the 2 higher bolts - but I have no problem with my 1.6 rockers.
Sorry, I cannot remember how much I paid for the powder coating - I hope to find the invoice for the #'s and then I will know.

I have a thread on this as well. Have the slant edge covers, tall, and they interfere with the wiper motor. Trying to solve this as well.
