Default Normal operating temps.

Is an oil temp of 222F and coolant temp of 212-215F at 80mph, ~2K rpm at an ambient temp of 28 - 34F on A five hour drive normal? I do a 700 mile round trip commute and run the vette about every other week on the commute. Here in AZ and NM it will get to 90 - 110 during the summer. What can I expect then. I've had the car since Oct so I haven't driven it in the real hot weather yet.

Those temps are fine. Before the hot weather hits, you may want to remove the radiator and clean out all the trash that builds up between the radiator (front) and the condenser. Since the car is new to you, and good thorough flush wouldn't be a bad idea either.

Seems rather hot to me, mine never got that high even before I worked on cooling.

Is the thermostat sticking? Stock is 195 for L98 and 180 for LT1. The space between the radiator and condensor probably needs cleaning in any event.

Those numbers sound normal if the outside temperature was 80-90 degrees... They sound high with outdoor temps of 28-32 degrees F.
Check between the rad and condenser to see if you have accumulated any debris.
I would also listen to see if your fans are coming on.
Finally, Whenever I buy a used car I change out all the fluids...
oil, tranny, differential, brake, clutch, power steering, power flush the rad and add new antifreeze...

The water temps are a bit high for the ambient air temps. My 92 sees 198-205 while crusiing on the freeway in cool weather. When the temps get to 75+ then 205-210 is about normal. Even in slow traffic on hot days, temps may climb to 224-228 but as soon as the secondary fan comes on, the temps will drop quickly to around 200. BTW, turning the A/C to ON forces the secondary fan to run and that will help to drop coolant temps.

As mentioned, check for debris in front of the A/C condensor and between the condensor and the radiator. You can use a stream of water from a hose directed at the back side of the radiator to help remove junk that is caught between the cooling fins.

Because the C4 is a 'bottom breather " it's easy to get all sorts of stuff caught in the opening and the condensor and radiator.

Your oil temps are fine but if you get the water temp down, expect the oil temps to drop a few degrees.

Thanks for the feedback, every body. I've done the oil and tranny (Castrol TWS 10w 60 for the tranny when I installed the Hurst). Time to do the rest! Oh yeah, I'm one of those boneheads that buy snake oil. I installed a Hypertech Power Control Module, not the reprogrammer. Anyway, after reading other threads on the forum, it's coming off. I'll check on the fans coming on. After a short run Saturday, before the five hours today, I noticed the expansion tank overflowing. Hmmm?

You obviously have a lower than stock, temp, or a defective stat. You didn't mention the year of your car. The L98 comes with a 195* stat and the LTx engines have a 180* stat. The engine CAN'T run cooler than the temp of a functioning stat. If you have a stat that is stuck open, your warm up times are excessive and that causes excessive fuel usage and unnecessary engine wear. For daily driving, 195* water temp is great. For racing the 170* water is good, but not so good for daily driving.

The oil temp seems normal but the coolant high. The difference between them also seems odd. My oil is usually 20-30o higher than coolant. So maybe your coolant temp sensor/guage is out of whack?

Fans are not relevant at 80mph.
