Sorry, but "loose again" and "noise" are two different things. What I was understanding was the valve lash was losening up. And my 87 has never seen 25 lbs oil pressure,at idle I hold no less than 35-40 using 10W30- so it's possible the hydraulics may not be getting enough oil at idle. Now I'm begining to agree with some who suggested trying a heavier weight oil. Just my thoughts.

you know rick to tell you the truth i am not exactly sure what the idle pressure is.as matter of fact i would install a test guage to yours..some of the oil pressure sensor can be crossed and you may have the wrong one.
nor would i think that new 55HP oil pump would fail..
What is IMPORTANT. THE FACT IS that the lifter lose thier prime at IDLE..
any way back to the subject: the problem will be elimninated by sunday nite.. new comp 850-16 . Mopac performance has replaced all 16, and provided new head /intakees gasket for my trouble..i had them tested and found 4 defective
and that's the end result

ripped motor (top end, saturday) apart found 4 HR lifters (new) collapsed, they replaced all 16, with new gaskets, FElpro 1010. felpro 1204...exhaust etc...AS they are warrantied for 1 year......time wise Removal 4.5 hrs..expect 5 hrs install..(REplacing heads TOO!) ...should be completed by wednesday evening..
thanks jake,
ps: smack123..came over the other nite.. he and I check out his A/C Altinator problem...which is ok, then it was time for a few of ..had great visit and exchanged tall stories
comp 850-16 HR L, crane 981-16 102lbs...heres the deal changed spring on 87 works fine, used same components in 89 with new lifters not fine
That seat pressure isn't enough to have caused the lifter problem.
I read a mag article recently where a CompCams HR lifter failed and the Comp Tech said they'd had a few other problems with the same lifter part #. Not positive, but I don't believe Comp makes their own lifters. Seems to me I've read that there are only about two companies that make them.
A while back, one of them went out of business or something similar and there was a nationwide shortage of HR lifters as a result.
