Sorry, but "loose again" and "noise" are two different things. What I was understanding was the valve lash was losening up. And my 87 has never seen 25 lbs oil pressure,at idle I hold no less than 35-40 using 10W30- so it's possible the hydraulics may not be getting enough oil at idle. Now I'm begining to agree with some who suggested trying a heavier weight oil. Just my thoughts.

you know rick to tell you the truth i am not exactly sure what the idle pressure is.as matter of fact i would install a test guage to yours..some of the oil pressure sensor can be crossed and you may have the wrong one.
nor would i think that new 55HP oil pump would fail..

What is IMPORTANT. THE FACT IS that the lifter lose thier prime at IDLE..

any way back to the subject: the problem will be elimninated by sunday nite.. new comp 850-16 . Mopac performance has replaced all 16, and provided new head /intakees gasket for my trouble..i had them tested and found 4 defective

and that's the end result

How much spring pressure are you running? Too much valve spring pressure will cause hydraulic lifters to collaspe.

What was the brand of the lifters that failed?

That seat pressure isn't enough to have caused the lifter problem.

I read a mag article recently where a CompCams HR lifter failed and the Comp Tech said they'd had a few other problems with the same lifter part #. Not positive, but I don't believe Comp makes their own lifters. Seems to me I've read that there are only about two companies that make them.

A while back, one of them went out of business or something similar and there was a nationwide shortage of HR lifters as a result.
