Is there a noticeable performace increase when bolting on Flowmasters with otherwise stock exhaust on an L98?? I have already done the other basic mods and noticed very little differance in performance.
Diesel,
I would stay away from the Flowmasters unless you really like your chassis being resonated to death....if you have cats in the car it will not be that bad though. I have a dual 3" in my stroker and the Flows are really loud, but their resonance is what will get irritating...
I have the 50 series on mine.. gutted cat.. sounds great.. I dont have any resonance.. then again I dont have a 400hp engine either.. as far as hp gains.. nothing that I can notice.. need a dyno or track to tell you that.. feels faster or maybe its mind games because of how much louder it is now..
I ran .271 tenths faster in the 1/4 mile with a flowmaster cat back and a gutted cat. I have no problem with noise. I think when you install the mufflers make sure the tips extend from under the car should help with any interior noise
The car may not be any faster with the Flowmasters, but it sure sounds like it is.
Actually, I do think it breathes a bit easier. How much that translates to HP at the rear wheels I am not sure. It's not hurting anything and that IS for sure.
I put the system for a LT1 on my 90 L98, got rid of the cats, still have the stock exhaust manifolds. Sounds great and it got rid of resonance i had in 6th gear, now road noise is louder than the exhaust at cruise. I used to wear earplugs with the stock exhaust for any trip out of town.
It seems that just putting flowmasters on a stock exhaust further aggravates the resonance to the point of being unbearable and has given flow masters a bad name. I can send you a sound clip hawmanai*yahoo.com.
I put a Flowmaster Force II Muffler system on my 90 Vette and they sound great. There is a little resonance when your cruising at highway speeds and the motor is under a slight load like going up a small hill, otherwise comparatively quiet. Put your foot into it and they really growl.
For a noticeable increase in acceleration, gears are usually the best bet (major engine work excluded). They will wake your car right up, just don't over do it.
