At around 4000 to 4500 RPMS, the car buckles and jerks. It looses all power and surges.
Replaced the fuel injectors, fuel filter, fuel strainer, cap, rotor, wires, AFPR. I'm thinking it's either the coil or the fuel pump....any idea which one it could be or if it could be something else?
If you need more info, just let me know, trying to type fast before I go out to dinner.
I think easiest thing to do would be to put a fuel pressure gage on and see what the car does at those high rpm's. It could be either, fuel starvation at high rpm or the coil breaking down
Yes, when I hooked the fuel gauge up, the pressure did not drop nor did the needle go erratic at that RPM. The tach does though. Do coils wear out? And if they do, wouldn't it cause a miss throughout the RPM range?
Well, the tach gets its signal from the ignition system so if it is going crazy, your ignition system might also be going crazy.
If you hook up a fuel pressure gauge and it doesn't falter when the bucking is going on then the fuel pump is ok.
I would replace the coil given the options. They are pretty cheap and easy to replace.
If the tach is flipping out your problem is probably electrical. I never recommend parts swapping. However, coils do degrade over time and milage. I have had them test good or marginal and actually be bad. Test module, pick up and coil. Inspect cap and rotor. I would bet a dollar to a five that your problem is in your distributor.
