Default JBA shorty headers

I was wondering what kind of gains I would see with the JBA shorty headers on my '92 LT1, and if the difference would be noticable. Also how much better will my exhaust sound? I know that long tubes are usually prefered, but I live in California and need to be able to pass smog.

Thanks.

You'd want to have headers awfully badly to justify shorties. You PROBABLY will notice the difference, but it won't be a lot. A lot of bucks for the bang.

I have a '92 LT1 as well, I posted a similar thread about this, and the general concensus was to pass on it.I've heard shorties are a waste of time, (not to say money). Its either long tubes or nothing. I won't run long tubes b/c of what you mentioned , but I'm in New Jersey. Also the ground clearance issue. I've even read where GM went back to the exhaust manifolds for the LT1, and internally they are supposed to be more smooth internally and actually flow better than shortie headers. I don't race or auto x, so the car the way it is is good enough for me. Also, I don't have any leaks now, and don't want to create any, what a biotch it would be to correct!

I'm running ceramic coated JBA's on my 92. They did deepen the exhaust sound through my Borlas. Other than that I didn't feel any change in performance except in the higher RPM ranges. But you don't normally go through life at WOT. So if I were you, I'd pass.

They are only 1 5/8's. If going to a shory header go to the Hooker or the SLP, preferbly coated versions, and they are 1 3/4's. The gains, if only a little, will be more than with the JBA's.

the gains you'd get from shorties is minimal at best. And for the price, I personally don't think it justifies the gains. But to each is own. I will say that the shorties look better than the manifolds do.

I won't say it. Since it seems he isn't going to make the first mistake, the second, isn't an issue.

Ceramic Coated shorties are gonna run your around 400 to 500 bucks....Now, that being said (now for the same money invested probably less) would you rather have shortie headers or 1.6 Roller Rockers? I know what I would do.
