Gonna have to do it as I see them sitting outside the covers on the manifoldand I have a drip to stop. These are probably the source. Started on it but quit after seeing the harness attached to the driverside cover studs they are gonna have to be taken off at least. Also the A/C-Alt bracket. What else will I have to take off or move to get them off and on cleanly?
The AIR tube on the rt. side is the worst IMO, that bolt on the back of the head is bi%$h, last time I had it off I cut the bracket off. I also disconnect all the injectors and use the cover posts to hold the injector harness back out of the way. Be sure and disconnect the battery before removing the alturnator. If you use the GM gaskets they will hold to the cover's nicely during installation. Make sure to presoak AIR fittings in the exhaust manifiold, Good Luck
So you say I have to remove the alternator. It looks like I have to remove the cover posts too as the harness is attached by them. I did not even look at the right side figured the drivers side would be worst. I am using Felpro gaskets and I have a tube of sealer to glue them to the cover with before install good to do or not? Anything else I have to remove or reposition? Is the AC unit clear?Remeber this is an LT1.

Yes, LT1, the alternator must come off, I had to get a set of crows-foot wrenches to remove the AIR tube fittings at the ex. manifolds.
The rt. side AIR tube I do not completly remove, unscrew it from the ex. manifold, back out the bolt on the back of the head (this does not need to come out as the bracket is "U" shaped ) then loosen the 2-bolts on the back of the intake manifold, this should give you enough room to lift the tube out of the way and remove/install the valve cover.
I remove the cover posts and then reinstall them to hold the injector harness out of the way. The glue is ok just don't go crazy with it. The AC unit is clear you just need to disconnect the ele. connector.
I sure I've forgotten something, but this should give you a head start.
Good Luck,
Denver.
