Default Help!! Leaking power steering fluid??

my '87 has been sitting for over a year (installed new engine and trans). the power steering pump / gear has never leaked.

today, i test cranked the engine and when i was done, noticed power steering fluid on the garage floor, located directly below the gear in the center of the car. it did not appear to be coming from the pump or the fittings on the gear.

i have to admit - my 4 year old son would sit in the car (while i was working on it) and crank the steering wheel from side to side (sometimes all the way).

is there a seal that could've blown out? any other ideas?

thanks as always!!

When mine leaked on my 86 it turned out to be one of the hoses. Over time they harden and didn't seal well no matter how tightly I screwed on the clamp.

A short piece of hose from my local AutoZone cured that one.

thanks - i'll check the hoses today. maybe one of them cracked while i was moving the pump around, which would make sense.

i was hoping i could blame my 4 year old

When I had a leak on the '86 we owned it turned out to be the seals on the rack.
