Glue centercaps to new wheels?
I bought some used aftermarket wheels for my 87. Just got the new tires mounted and have a problem. The 84 C4 center caps I got from a Forum member are a medium tight fit to the wheel center opening. If I just stuck them in they would come off with the first bump that I hit.
Any ideas?
Anyone do this before? I was thinking of using some black or clear RTV. I want the plastic to stick to the aluminum rim with the ability of being able to pry them off or push them off from the inside in case I ever have to replace the tire.
Also my garage is in the mid 20 degree range this week but I could put a heat lamp on the rim if needed.
I've had good luck with Automotive Goop glue. It sticks really well, but can be pried off when needed. Hardware store has it. Apply, tape caps on and let dry over night for best results.
I've had succes in the past wrapping a few layers of electrical tape around the plastic tabs. In my case it added just enough extra thickness for the cap to be held snugly.
