Hey guys, I'm stripping everything unecessary out of my 1993 coupe and want to eliminate the alarm system as well. I'm removing the power locks and the instrument cluster (replacing with analog guages) but I'm concerned that I'm going to have trouble with the kill switch built into the alarm.
Does anyone have any experience with being able to disable or remove the alarm without completely replacing the ECM or the body computer?
On my 84, behind the mini cluster to the right of the main cluster, is an area callesd somethinjg I can't remember, but it has several different modules in there. If you look in the middle, you will see a fuse. Pull the fuse, and the alarm is disabled. glad I could finally answer someone elses question.
Assuming you're talking about the same thing I'm thinking of, the VATS (vechicle anti-theft system) on my 86 is controlled by a lil black box about the size of a cigarette package hidden away behind the passenger side dash. just unplugging it from the wiring disables the VATS system. As far as i know (and please correct me if i'm wrong, guys) that should disable any security-related things.
I believe the alarm system only gets set when you use the power locks. if you remove the acutators and don't send the pulse through the wires, the alarm system shouldn't see it turn on at all.
You might just want to remove your PKE reciever as well. Its located behind the DIC under the small tone generator box. When you pull the PKE box it doesn't let the power door locks work at all. It may disable the hatch release as well, but I'm not sure.
