I've searched all over and can't seem to find the torque spec's for the shock mounting bolts. I have a 1996 with the non-adjustable suspension if it makes a difference. If anyone has them handy I'd really appreciate it if you wouldn't mind sharing the info. I know plenty of folks just tighten the bolts, but I'd prefer to do it "right". Thank you for your help.
This is from my 92 shop manual:
Front Upper and Lower: 19 ft-lbs (I usually tighten the upper nut until the bushing bulges out to the same diameter as the metal retainer. The two lower bolts have nuts that fit in recesses on the underside of the lower control arm
Rear Lower shock nut: 61 ft-lbs Upper shock retaining nut to bracket: 19 ft-lbs (same as above) Bracket to frame: 22 ft-lbs. (raise the suspension to ride height by placing a jack under the knuckle and raising it up so that weight is removed from the jack stand. Do this before tightening the two bracket to frame bolts.
Use the Haynes manual to wipe grease off the floor and get the GM service manuals. It will have all the technical info you need to work on the car and well worth the money. Go to www.helminc.com to order a new manual. You can also find them on eBay for good prices if you don't mind a used one.
