Default Extremely Hard Shifting.

I have been having some trouble with the shifter in my 96 lately. Whenever the car is cold, it is very hard to get it into gear. It has always been this way and usually eases up with about a minute of driving. But the other day, it took about a half hour to be able to shift normally. Could I just need a tranny fluid change? The car has 73k miles.

I had intermittent problems shifting my 4+3. Changed the fluid with Synchromesh and has worked like a dream ever since!

Agreed, sounds like an issue of wrong fluid inside.

The ZF is very particular about it's fluid, really there are only two that should be used. The GM Factory Fill is a 5w-30, or there is a Castrol that is synthetic and thicker. Even though the synthetic is thicker, it would probably do better for cold temperatures.
