Default Intake Oil Leak

I have an oil leak that is coming from the rear of the intake manifold. I have a new set of gaskets and was wondering if anyone could tell me the the torque sequence for reinstalling the intake. I believe that the torque setting is supposed to be 35 ftlbs. Any help would be appreciated.

thanks

Start from the center of the intake, crisscross, and work your way out.

Several years ago, when I first started screwing on my 86, I found that the intake manifold torque sequence is a LOT different than for the many other Chevy intakes I'd installed in the past.

In the past it was start in the middle, criss-cross side to side and front to back, BUT the 86 is different.

So, for your year, I can't say, but I'd definitely get my hands on the GM Shop Manual for your year and check just to be sure.

Another point: I found that the brake bleeding sequence is different on Vettes, too and it differs by the YEAR OF THE CAR. It's NOT the old, "start with the caliper farthest from the master cylinder" way.

I did my intake manifold gaskets about 3 months ago on my '95. I started an identical thread and received very detailed answers from many folks on forum.

From 'tempest' , I got the correct bolt sequence:
what is most important is the tightening order:

driver's side
--------------------
12 11 4 1 5 6
-----------------------> front
10 9 3 2 7 8
--------------------
passenger side

Check out my original thread for more details below:

Good luck....it's not a hard job, but requires some patience...

Just another quark - if you have aluminum heads 35lbs is a bit too high. At 35lbs you could strip the threads. You might want to go with 25 to 30lbs.

he asked for intake manifold torque specification...what do the heads have to do with this?

My Chilton book says for 93-96 tighten to 35 lbs. in three stages: in sequence mentioned above by mikec4. step one 71 in. lbs. step two 19 ft. lbs. step three 35 ft. lbs Throttle body gets 18 ft. lbs.

If I am not mistaken - the intake bolts bolt into aluminum heads. 35lbs can strip them.

There was a recent posts on this subject. In fact a few individuals did or were close to stripping the threads.
Do a search.

I use 35# on my Edelbrock aluminum heads, but I pull them down in a more steps, five # increments.

I then let the setup sit for a few hours and go back over all of them again. I've found that the gaskets I use - Ultra-Seals, compress a tad and when I re-check the torque, I find it's dropped several pounds.

I then let it sit more and continue to re-check and re-torque until they all hold 35#. I've found this procedure to be a LOT easier than having to remove the top end stuff to re-torque them down the road.

Over the years I've had more than my fair share of intake manifold leaks so I've become **** about sealing it.
