I know this is not vette related, but I was wondering if anyone knows how to check the pressure on a 92 chevy 1500 w/a 4.3 v-6?
I am not sure where to hook my gauge up.I cant see any kind of schreider(sp)valve.I bought this truck for 500 bucks and it runs but it dies after running for a few minutes.
Here is a "stab" in the dark.... I would venture to say if it iss fuel injected the fuel pressure should be around 40 psi... if you look on the fuel rail there should be a shrader valve. If not you could probably pull the feed line and connect the guage there or add a Tee fitting... remember it is 40 PSI!
another way to "check fuel pressure.. is just key on ( don't start the engine)... you should hear the pump run for about 2-3 seconds and shut off. You could then using extrreme caution try loosening the fuel line and see if there is any pressure I.E. fuel coming out under pressure...
It does sound to me that it could be either the fuel pump or perhaps a clogged filter... does it "die" faster if you are revving it? ( meaning you aare using more fuel than it can supply....
Incorrect Info. That is a TBI engine, you must undo the fuel return line, and put the gauge in line with the system. You will need TBI adapters for your fuel pressure tester to go in line with the return line. On a TBI system you should be around 12-15psi for your fuel pressure. These are not like conventional fuel injection systems.
Incorrect information. To properly check the fuel system pressure in a TBI (or ANY FI) system the gauge has to be hooked into the line AHEAD of the pressure regulator. The return line is after the regulator on the GM TBI set ups, I am aware of. The fuel pressure spec for a GM TBI systems is 9-13 psi. All bets are off if it's a "vortec" system.
