Default Aargh, 1 step forward; 2 steps back?

'92 coupe LT1-A4

Well, my belt finally gave out on the way home but I felt pretty lucky since I recently ordered & received the very hard to find (locally at least) double-ribbed replacement belt. I went out & put on the new belt, trying to be careful not to break that plastic sensor near the tensioner with my breaker bar....and.... I broke it anyway

First off, what is that sensor down there near the tensioner that looks a lot like the maf plug? Engine coolant temp sensor perhaps? Secondly, I see that it's throwing a code already but can I drive without it until I get a replacement part? Also, I didn't have a good look but it appears to be embedded into the thermostat housing or something else down that way, will I have to yank out all of those parts when I replace it or does it have a nut that allows for it to come out?

Ugh... one day I'll learn to be more careful.

Thanks,

Mark

that's a coolant sensor... It ain't expensive.

It's in the water pump. You should be able to wrench it off with channel locks or something. I think it's a 5/8ths deep, but I don't remember.

What you can do is RTV the plug to the sensor. I did that... and it holds pretty good.
