Go the center console lid.....open it.....there will be a list of codes underneath the lid...if you see the Z51......you have it....... Do a search for RPO Codes and decode your options......

Except the RPO sticker is located in the storage compartment behind the drivers seat on `85s.

And if your sticker is missing or whatever check how many turns lock to lock on your steering wheel. 2 turns or a little less is a Z51.

fyi - found this on the forum before, since I have an 85 z51, thought I'd share.

1. 16x9.5" rims out back
2. Quick-Ratio Rack & Pinion
3. Heavy Duty Bushings
3. Stiffer Bilstein Shocks
4. Stiffer Fiberglass Springs
5. Power Steering Cooler
6. Oil Cooler
7. Longer Front Air Dam
8. Extra Frame Braces
9. Mufflers with both outlets functional
10. Thicker Solid Swaybars
11. Push/pull fans
12. 3.07 gears in the auto Z51, instead of 2.73

I believe to determine #2, you steering turns lock to lock in 2 1/4 turns
My 1985 is not listed as a Z51, but it at least has those options. As far as the rest, I have not been able to confirm or deny them, as I haven't yet looked.

My point is: even if your car isn't listed as a Z51 in the RPO codes- you may still have most of the features.

In addition, mine also has Z51 stamped on the underside of the front lower control arms.

There's also a specific number stamped in the spring, but I suppose the exact number varies from year to year.

Do you pee blood??

This answer was actually posted by another forum member in response to the same question sometime back. I thought it was kind of funny so I stole it! My car is an 86 and has the Z-51 RPO code, but it did not have the dual functioning exhaust.

Go to the Corvette Museum web site page for ordering a build sheet.
https://www.corvettemuseum.com/libra...ts/index.shtml With your VIN and $40 you can get a reproduction of the build sheet used for your individual Vette. You can also get a copy of the original Window sticker. It is nice to have and will resolve ALL questions.

DOH.....your right.....they are behind the seat in the storage bay.....

I had an 85 with Z51.....Liked it better than the 91 I had as far as handling. And yes.....the 3.07 gears in an auto is much better than the 2.73!

i never heard about the muffler deal on the z51's. matter of fact, on my car(85 z51), only one of the exhaust outlets were open. found that out when i changed to flows.
