The difference is, you actually see the gain with long tubes. Shortys can save you some weight and be better looking that the stock manifolds but don't really give any performance advantage.

Do a search. This has been discussed in length, many times. In short, short tube headers are VERY limited in the amount of power they can give. However, they are the only legal header in California. One reason being that the cats have to be moved or eliminated. Long tube headers can be a real benefit. Short tubes??? A lot of bucks for the bang!

Youll really notice the difference with the longtubes, the shorty's are not something I would use unless I lived in CA. Power gains are about 10-15 with longtubes, about half of that for shortys.

You can still use the cats with longtubes, but it requires some work to fit them in, and you'll need bullit cats.

In that case there is no reason that I can think of to even consider shorties.

In Lingenfelters' book he claims there is almost no noticeable gain in going from the 1-1/2 factory tublar manifolds to shorties. In fact most of his street motors used them...Food for thought

I gained exactly 20hp with the Hooker long tubes I put on. Im pretty sure the High flow cats I put on helped as well. I went from 254rwhp to 274rwhp. This was before heads and cam work.
