The sticker on my 89R with AT has the performance axle option on it for $22.00. It says, performance axle ratio.
Looking at the build sheet, it has the G92 performance ratio axle, and right abovt that, GU2 - 2.73 ratio axle.
Why the option ? What did you get if you did not check off the GU2 ?
2.73 ring and pinion does not sound like too much performance.
Am I missing something? I do not know the C4 mechanics that well.

The G92 only means that the car had an optional performance axle ratio installed. The specific auto tranny performance axle ratio depended on whether the car was a coupe or a vert. Typically, it was G44 3.07 for a coupe or GU2 2.73 for a vert. 6-speed cars got different specific ratios based on the body style but the G92 still refered to a "performance axle"
GM sort of confused things with two RPO codes for a performance axle.
The G92 is a useless code, it means nothing by itself.
The code it triggers is the axle code, for you it was 2.73 which is not terrible for the L98.
You wouldve gotten 2.59 had the buyer not checked off G92, although there were some years where you could get the 2.73 or 3.07s without getting the G92.
