charging problems?

charging problems?
Gents,
I could use some help. A couple of days ago while i was driving home in my 88 coupe my volt guage went up to 16 to 17 volts and the red warning came on. In addition, the service engine soon light came on and my electronic climate control started to falsh (Very Weird). This went on for about 30 seconds then everything returned to noraml with no problems of any kind. This morning when i was driving to work, the battery light came on and my voltage meter read 10 to 11 volts. The battery is about 2 years old and it is a 72 month die hard. The alternaoer was replaced about 4 years ago but only has about 2500 miles on it. Are these related (I don't see how they can't be)? Thank you, Gary

Both sound like the internal voltage regulator built into the alternator. If it is intermittent, as you indicate, a "test" won't reveal a problem unless it malfunctions during the test.
