Default what hardware and software is needed to modify chips

as the title suggest for 87-89 c4:

"how to burn notebook"? what tuning software? logging software? burning software? and or support files? tuning table files? bins, hex, binary (stock/or modified)?

what hardware for burning chips? Do not want to use UV erase type so what kind of chips used? memcal adapters? realtime adapters? switchable adapters? who make it/ where?

it there a group session learning forum?

i realize software/tools have changed, some of the data @ How to do section has been outdated..

It's time to learn more and i know this forum has the resources, so please be patient "NEWBIE At WORK"

thanks

First you might take some time to read the sticky at the top.

Then here's the whole deal boiled down.

Need to read the data that your ECM is producing.
- DataMaster is a good product along with WinBin, TunerPro and TunerCAT.
- You'll need to have the proper ECM file for your ECM/Engine?tranmission combination to ensure this program is producing the correct information.
- You also need the PC and the cable to plug into your ALDL port.

Need to edit the bin file that your chip will be running.
- TunerPro, TunerCAT and many others are available.
- Again you'll need the correct mask to edit your bin file.

You'll need a chip eraser, chip burner and some spare chips.
- Check out Craig Moates site and some of the others for this equipment.

Another option is the Prominator product that adds an uploadable PROM to your ECM. For this product you simple upload a new bin file thru the laptops printer port to the Prominator. I got one and it only takes ten seconds to push the new bin file. Don't need burners or any of that stuff. Downside is you can't burn chips for other peoples cars unless they use the Prominator also. Upside is you can upload files on the fly!

Spend the time reading the sticky. There is alot of info that will lead you onto many other sites and information sources. I too am a novice at this and found that there is no one source of information. Lots reading and experimenting. Thats why I went with the Prominator, since there is bound to be a long learning curve. And don't be surprised to find that some CF members will be eager to share information.

Good Luck JRC

Here's how I did it

Prominator sounds like a great option, but I can not speak to that one way or the other. If you get the stuff I list in my link above, you can also add Moates' Ostrich and "Tune-on-the-fly". Good luck, Ed.
