I cant find this sensor in Helms, probably not looking in the right place. Its on the passenger side engine, a little to the left of the fuel lines (this is on a 94). Heres a pic:

When you get a new one, make sure and buy it from GM. It may cost you a bit more, but I have found that the cheepies from the chainstore parts places are not very accurate. I put 3 different ones on a truck I had a while back, and every one read 25-35 degrees hotter than my actual temps.

call up Chris at Superior, I just ordered a sensor from him last week and it was half the price of my local dealer

Well that sucks. I just put one in a couple weeks ago from my local store. Haven't driven yet to know how it will compare. Cost was like $12.
If the sensor on the water pump is for the ECM, will the temp reading that shows up on a Tech 1 come from this sensor? Maybe I can do a comparison with it.
