GM top vs Astro?

Look at the trim that goes around the front and side edges of the top. On the GM top, it's metal (aluminum, I think). On an Astro top, it's rubber.
I've seen a lot of posts about people who have 'heard' about problems with Astro tops, but very little first-hand information. I've had one on my '96 for about 5 years and it's holding up just fine. I may just be lucky, though.
