I'm getting a code 32 on my 90 coupe and the great majority of people are telling me to checkthe egr temp switch.I've also read a couple troubleshooting guides that refer to checking egr temp switch. It's supposed to be located on the tube that runs from the right exhaust manifold to the intake manifold.Problem is,I can't seem to find it.I can't find it in the shop manual or on the car.Does my 90 have this? The code 32 shows up only when on cruisin on the highway at 65-70 mph.Never comes on when I start the car cold.Any ideas? Thanks in advance.
I've pulled the intake off my 90 a few times and I have yet to see a temp switch. I am not sure how the 90-91 ECMs determine the 32 code but when I switched to LT headers I had to burn a chip to get rid of the code for good. If you do not have LT headers then I would suggest going thru the Shop Manual (not Haynes) diagnostic charts. Probably a EGR solenoid or carboned up EGR valve would be my guess.
I think only the 89 and down vettes had the switches. My dad's 86 has one.
I had a 32 on my 90 from time to time. It turned out to be a leaky diaphram on the EGR. Replaced it and all gone 32.
Draw a vaccuum on the EGR and make sure it holds. That is how I found the problem with mine. Good Luck.
90 has no egr temp switch. Check and clean all deposits in and around EGR valve and make sure diaphram seats properly and tap on the round pintle to remove exhaust deposits. If cleaning the egr valve and checking all the vacuum lines doesn't fix your code I've heard that dirty or clogged passages in manifold can cause problems. I bet it's just the valve or vacuum issue though.
Thanks for all the input.I've checked the operation of the egr solenoid, according to the shop manual, and it's working. Also I have manually put vacuum to the egr valve and saw it move and it held vacuum. This car is super low mileage(1240 actual mi.)and has been in storage for many years. My concern is electrical connections deteriorate in time.I'm thinking maybe one of the sensors that feed the ecm information to operate the egr is bad.Does this sound right? This code only shows up when the car is in the cruise mode,65-70 mph.I'm a little new to the C-4's,but I've learned a lot on this forum and I know theres a lot of knowledgeable corvette people out there. Can I get any suggestions for this problem? Thanks in advance.
