I'm gonna tackle installing some JBA short-tube headers (and hi-flow cats) and need to know of any gotchas before I get knee deep into this.
Before you all go ranting about no performance gains.......I live in Cali......and long-tubes are a no-no. I have a Stang buddy that got nabbed running long-tubes and no cats......it cost him $2000. He had to fix the car and sell it so he could pay the fine.
Make sure the headers are CA approved along with the high flow cats. Do you have a visual inspection? I thought you CA guys were not allowed to touch anything from the heads to the end of the OEM cats. Don't throw your OEM manifolds and cats away, just in case you have to put them back on. How many years back do they allow some modifications to exhaust?
The place I go to ( and most places besides the "TEST-ONLY" shops) only check for the existence of cats. As for the headers, the JBA's are CARB approved.
Terrance...wish I had some words of wisdom for ya' on this one, but I didn't do my own install. I had Race-Street-Rally do it... I would imagine, as well, that the problems that they ran into were LT specific, i.e. clearance issues with the frame. If there's anything I can do to help, though, let me know.
