I have way too much brake dust on my 5 spoke wheels. Who makes ceramic/low dust pads for my 87 ? They don't have to stop on a dime or last forever. Just keep the wheels clean.
I put on the "high performance" napa pads, and they sucked compared to OEM.
I think Hawk HPS now makes pads for em though. They've got rave reviews, but I have no idea on dust, they're a carbon-metallic pad.
C C, is that a fact ? I went to Advanced Auto and they did not list ceramic pads. Thats why I posted here. If they only make 88 up that sucks. I went to the Hawk site and they are only listing the ones you mentioned and Ive heard they are very dusty. I may have to call the dealer --I have a connection in the perts dept. and see what they have.
I ran a set of Hawk HPS pads on my 92 for awhile and the dust was horrible. Even a quick trip around town got enough on the chrome 5-spokes to be clearly visible. I have since replaced those pads with the GM originals but even those will dust a little bit.
I have EBC GReenstuff pads on my 87 autocross car and those pads don't show a lot of dust in street driving, but the wheels are either the stock 87 or GS style 5-spokes so the dust is not quite as visible.
The PFC Z-rated pad is supposed to be an excellent pad for street and sutocross use but I can't say anything about how bad dustign is with them. If you want high-perfromance braking, the chances are that you will get more brake dust fron HP pads. Stock pads won't dust as much, but you may not get the braking performance compared to the various HP pads available.
Just put some Raybestos on the rear and notice considerably less dust. The fronts attract it like a magnet. Still has the Pep Boys pads on that the previous owner put on.
I have Hawk HP Plus pads and they are a very dirty pad. I wash my wheels almost daily. But they stop on a dime in our sh!tty traffic here and on autoX and HS events.
I have heard that the PFC Z-rated are cleaner, and when warmed up properly are good on the track. And the lifetime guarantee and price are good, too.
I just ordered a set of front and rear PFC-Z rated pads at my local Autozone. I have heard good things about them. One note, however, is that they no longer offer a lifetime guarantee on these pads. I guess they wised up. The warrantee is now only 2 years. Now I just have to do enough DEs and autox events to wear em out in less than 2 years. No rest for the wicked, as they say.
I have the EBC greens. They stop somewhat better than oem BUT make a lot of dust under hard braking. Proly not a good chioce fer ya. Why not just AC Delco.
