Default Heater Doesnt Work.

My heater currently does not work. Assuming the heater core is good what could it be? I had a guy look at it and he mentioned a climate control unit, but he also couldnt fix my electical problems. The a/c works like a champ if that matters.

The hot water valve on the passenger side under the hood, where the A/C hoses go into the heater box.It has a slide arm and if you turn on the heater and push in the plunger where the heater hoses are, the hot water should go through the hose and allow hot water into the heater core.
A vacuum hose should be attached to it.
Just follow the heater hoses from the water pump.
The valve is connected to the small hoses .

I'm not sure how similar the 89 is to my 91 but my 91 doesn't have a water valve all the temp control is done under the dash by controling the air flow over the heater core and AC evaporator. Mine is equipped with the climate control system. I've had to replace two things on mine. One of the vacuum controlled actuators in the dash(The diaphram that one was ruptured, you could hear it leaking) and a unit they call the programmer which actually controls things using inputs from the sensors, CCM and control head. I have a GM manual for my '91 if you want to ask more questions. They may be similar.

Phil. I forgot to ask. What is the electrical problem? I've managed to fix a few of those, including one where I was eating alternators (I was getting about 20 miles per alternator) and the "electrical" shop said there was nothng wrong with the car (there was!).
