nope.. it is gonna have AC.. I enjoy being comfortable way too much for that..lol the only relocation for the AC is the AC radiator which will be going in the rear where BTF mounted his cooling radiator. and that is to make provisions for the big **** FMIC I have to go up front. once the hotside plumbing is finished and sent off to the coaters, I will be working on all the intercooler plumbing and bracketry, and will have some pics up of it! stay tuned.. things are starting to move again finally on it.. even if slowly..lol
did ya happen to notice anything missing? lol I left edequate room for the new motor mount, I am thinking of using a section of a steel I beam for the motor mount, probably 3/8" or more likely half inch.. I have figured on the compressive loads and the specs of the I-beak vertically, but don't have any for the specs if ya lay it on its side.. wanna find something out for me..lol I think in 1/2", about 4" wide with 1"edges, she should support more then I can muster up to harm it.. I would of course prefer Aluminum, but all I have is that HUGE plate of 1/2" thick aluminum.. bout 2.5' x 3' one solid rectangle.. can't cut it with anyhting I have here and a 60amp plasma cutter just singed the surface of it.. and the aluminum plate just showed some black burn marks. oh well..
thanks again guys.. going back out right now to finish the crossover pipe aqnd the last 2 primaries. then gonna go back over the welds with the tig torch to bead them up and make them look pretty before sending them off for the expensive good coatings.
from the looks of things in there I would use a section of c-beam on it's side. It's plenty strong and would leave the room you need. Simply build your motor plate (on side of the block) out of an L shaped metal piece then mount it pedistal style on urethane end link bushings, on the c-beam.
It might seem a little slow, but don't worry guys. I'm here now to help out. I'll be handling all the aluminum work...12 oz at a time Actually everything is lookin good location wise and we'll get this silver beast boostin soon enough.
BTF, truer words never spoken...boost is a helluva drug.
its coming along still... the crossover pipe is complete, and looks good, I am now finishing up the last primary tube from the front of the passenger side.... then I will plumb in the wastegate and its relief pipe into the exhaust system. that will complete the hot parts, then off to the Intercooler plumbing and mounting the FMIC which I have already played with a little and simply have to fab up 4 brackets to hold it, and then run the plumbing which is pretty straight forward with plenty of room thanks to the turbo location. and then the inlet pipe for the turbo inlet which will put the filter in front of the license plate cover and will use a forced air license plate cover with some 5" hard pipe shooting right at a large K&N filter. I will post some pics this weekend when there is something more substantial to look at, should have all the hot parts done and with soem luck, the intercooler in place and the cold side plumbing finished.
my Tig welder will be here tomorrow finally, the econotig my buddy in wilmington had I was using for the prettier welds, he moved and I have not been able to get in touch with him.. so I went ahead and ordered myself one.. will be at the Estes loading dock at 7:30 am.. and I will wire in the old plug for 230 volt service tomorrow evening and will be able to clean up the mig welds.. really needed a more powerful machine then the Mig I have which is only 110amps and 115volt..but it got me here so far, and I can go back over the beads with the tig torch to clean them up and then its grind off the flash from the mig.. the splatter which is not too bad at all, then have the headers glass beaded and sent off to be coated.
so thats where it all stands.. and im headed back out to do some work!
Damn Ex-Gold... your videos and site was a HUGE motivational inspiration for me.. along with all the others here on the forum who have delved in and began these long and sometimes very overwhelming and frustrating turbo builds.. but in the end.. It will be completely worth it..
so get yer **** in gear and get to Fabbin.. In the great words of Paul Senior... Go Fabricate.. get in there and get to Fabricatin before ya get the size 12!
Wow! Icvette, you're doing a great job on this project. Heck, I think I'm innovative when it comes to my car but your ideas have me beat. Keep the pictures and updates coming!
By the bye: Maybe I'm seeing something that's not really there but is that rust that has accumulated in your lifter valley? Just curious because if it is, what steps will you take to remove it?
Chris will have to say for sure, but I think that is a mock up engine. Same thing I am doing. All the good stuff is on an engine stand!!!!!! Keep up the great work.
yes that is rust, but as stated below, that motor is scrap.. spun main bearings.. thebuuilt low compression forged motor is on the stand and well oild and bagged.. just waiting for the time to finish the long block assembly when the plumbing gets back form the coaters.
I should have some updated pics somcing by the end of tomorrow.. all the hot side plumbing and possibly some of the cold side and intercooler mounting location.
Bumpity bump....Shes coming along nice Chris. Glad I could have a hand in some of the 'fabrication" this weekend. I got a hurtin elbow from the heavy 12oz lifting. Got some pictures for you next time I see you.
DDSLT5... pics are coming soon... will finish up the last primary tonight.. took yesterday off to recover from the 12 oz curls mentioned above and to catch up on some house work that I have been neglecting.. laundry, cleaning.. lawn mowing etc etc..lol but getting ready to head into the garage in a few to finish up the primary then will pull everything out and assemble the manifolds with turbo mounted, and snap off some pics to post later this evening!
Ryan,
Anytime man.. feel free to drop by whenever ya want.. I generally work on it in the evenings after 5.. so if ya get bored.. swing by.. I'll be fabbin chit up!
