Thanks RamRod. I am going to stick with it as it is the hub that was in there for this cover. I will check its lengths against the other post.
The hub actually came off of a 96, so the reluctor may need to stay in there.

The piston to valve clearance was checked for a 600 lift cam, with room to spare. They are dished SRP pistons for a 395 (I know we call it a 396).
If you want I can fax everything to you to see we checked everything.
I really appreciate the concern, and trust me, I was very concerned to reverify everything. We rehoned the block, new rings, bearings, and checked the balance again, as it is a internally mallory metal balanced motor.
I think once it is all together, it will run good. ALl it will need is a quick fine tune, as the chip I have is set up via mail order till I can get data via dyno etc to him.
ABSOLUTELY GREAT!!!

I was starting to get the impression that this was a hurry up, slap together job. GLAD TO SEE I WAS WRONG.

You've gone about it the right way, especially in checking behind all the previous work that was done by you-know-who.

Thanks, Steve, for letting me know all you've done in the short block assembly.

Jake,
Great post on parts cleaning, but have you considered wearing latex/vinyl examination gloves? Keeps your hands clean! I usually double layer since they have a tendency to rip.

I guess I'm just too Old School for gloves.

I've tried them but never could get comfortable wearing them while working on an engine. Now my hands show the scars from years of thinking that way. LOL

Sort of like having sex while wearing a condom.

Jake, No problem, back up is always appreciated. I just bought some gloves for the rebuild, and it feels wierd, as I usually do it naked, working on the Car that is.
