Default Code 43 Research

There have been a lot of threads about getting a code 43 (Knock Sensor) posted in the last few months.

Most of these codes do not result in the car going into limp home mode and resolve themselves.

I have had the same thing happen and have been watching the other post with interest. I am wondering if there is a commonality for this problem. I have a 93 LT1 with 73K on it and it obviously has the original plugs and wires.

What I have begun to observe is that my car does this most frequently when it is raining or very humid.

It seems to me that the other posts are for cars around the same age and mileage as mine. What I’m wondering is if they are noticing that this code shows more often in damp weather.

My thoughts are if there is a trend tied to moisture then I would begin to suspect that the high energy ignition is going to ground through the old spark plug wires thus causing a momentary weak fire in a cylinder. As the engine runs for a while it creates heat through the wires which dries them out and the short is gone. I think it would be of interest to see if the other members having this problem could qualify wither they get the signal in dry weather or humid.

We may be in a box thinking it is the knock sensor when in fact it is totally unrelated to the knock sensor.

The first common thing would be if they also have the original plugs and wires.

As it happens,I also have a 93. 53K Origional plugs and wires as far as I can tell.I lan to remedy that this summer.
I've had code 43 three times in the past year that I've had the car.At least two of those 3 times were in damp weather. Can't say for sure about the third, but I think you may be on to something here. The code always goes away in a couple of minutes too.
The plugs were going to be replaced just because I want to but a couple of my wires are showing signs of carbon tracking fro being too close to manifolds.
Plus,I think it idles just a bit rough. Can't say for sure since I don't have another C4 on hand to compare.Should a bone stock LT1 idle like a Buick?

I found a marginal connection from the sensor when I was diagnosing an intermittant problem. A new connector didn't solve it either. A new sensor did. Just something else to look at...

I have had a code 43 since I got my 1985.
I replaced the sensor, wiring, and ESC module-
I still got the code.
I removed the knock sensor- and i still got the code

Another forum member told me he solved a Code 43 by replacing the Oil Temp Sensor I havne't tried that... Maybe I should.

Just something for you to look at

EDIT:
i forgot; mine has new plugs, wires, distributer etc...
