Default White smoke?

it seems almost everytime i start my vette it lets out alot...alot of white smoke. the car is running kind of rich right now to. i just replaced the o2 sensor. There is also a pipe coming off the cat that is not conected( must of hit it off on a speed bump or something). Another puzzling thing is, it seems like smoke comes from under the hood as well, not just the tail pies.
Any Ideas???

thanks

White smoke typically indicates burning engine coolant.

Others will chip in with more info. but generally speaking white is coolant and blue is oil.

Sadly, neither are good news.

Or it could mean they elected a new Pope. Black smoke=no Pope, white smoke=new Pope. J/K.
White smoke=coolant.
First place to look for that is head or intake gasket. Does the car overheat? If so look at the head gasket.

Are you sure it's white and not blue? Reason I ask is because if you're not familiar with oil smoke it's easy enough to think that it's white. Could be the oil that got past the valve guide seals. This is a common problem with SBC even with low miles. My LT1 w/ 25k miles will smoke a little bit on startup once it has sat overnight. The smoke under the hood could also be oil that is leaking from somewhere (probably the valve cover gasket). Good luck!

If its an extreme amount, its coolant, which indicates a blown head gasket.

It could just be condensation burning out of the pipes, but that shouldnt last more than a couple seconds.

im pretty sure it is white smoke. but seems to smoke more after it has been sitting in the heat. the smoke comes from both the engine compartment and pipes when it does it alot. is there anyway to check for the head gasket?
