If you fish around under the carpet there is a steel, braided wire that you can use to open the hatch. Fish it out and pull on it with a pair of pliers. Then replace the hatch solenoid.

Looking back at the handle for the pull-out security cover, the wire should be just to the left of the handle (a couple inches or so) and it's under the carpet edge. Grab the wire and pull. You might have somebody push down on the rear of the hatch while you pull.
