Default It lives...

My sage appears to be nearing its conclusion. I got the car back from the mechanic today after he put on the re-done heads and did some finagling with the headers. He had to pull the intake AGAIN because there was still a vac leak at the front (his error, he thinks) but it's tight as a drum now (smoke kit proves it). I haven't put the custom prom in yet, but it feels very strong the little I've played around (letting the engine break in before doing anything serious).

CFI-EFI, I know I ignored your advice on the heads, but I did appreciate your giving it. I'll be the first to admit I'm an engine amateur and I'm sure by tweaking some more and measuring better I could get another 10% or more out of the engine... but for now I'm happy that it's running again without costing me another 2 large.

Thanks for all the help and advice you all gave over the last 18+ months...

I'm surprised it worked out so well. And glad, too. I hope it gives you a lot of pleasure for a long time. Just for the record, my solutions didn't involve YOU spending all that extra dough. All in all, it looks like you've hit on the most economical and expediant solution. I'm happy for you.

RACE ON!!!

There was no way short of a court battle that I could have gotten the heads guy to buy new ones, at least w/out trying the suggested repair first. So the least-resistance solutions were to take his repairs or dish out the cash...

Be sure you go back over the intake manifold, runner/plenum, exhaust bolts after the engine has gone through several heating and cooling cycles.

The gaskets will take a set due to heat/cooling expansion and contraction. After that check 'em ever so often until they hold the torque setting.

We don't want a leak to develop after all you've been through.

Good point. I'll do that this weekend; the car will have had about a half-dozen heat/cool cycles on it by then.
