I have a 91 ZR1 i bought the NX gemini twin wet kit for the car. I have read two opinions on retarding the timing. i've heard the computer automatically retards it and i've also heard to retard the timing 2-4 degrees. I want to run 150 and 225 shots periodicly on the track. so should I leave the timing up to the computer or should i buy a timing box?

BOOOOOM!! You're lucky I stopped by! The computer will NOT retard the timing automatically. You need to pull at least 5-6 degrees of timing by reprogramming the chip. Talk to Ratracer on this forum - he has sprayed his LT5 plenty.
Retard timing 1 1/2 degrees for every 50 hp.
If the motor is high milage 2 degrees for every 50 hp.
Also I would run the NOS fuel addative.
2 steps colder on the plugs.
thanks for the replies I will run an msd retard box. I am going to start with a 100 shot and only on the track. with the msd timing box a window switch and FSS i should be fine with a good tune and A/F ratio and colder plugs.
When i am ready to go over a 100 shot i am going to think about the maximizer.
Is running over 94 octane gas a must with running nitrous even with a 100 shot?
If you are under 100hp you can usually get away without pulling any timing. For a 150hp and greater I definately would pull some timing. as stated earlier, 1-2 degrees for every 50hp is the general rule. You should be able to run normal high octane pump gas with nitrous. When you don't retard the timing is when you need higher octane gas. The two are very closely related.
ZR1 don't like big wetshots either. The large intake means that fuel in the wetshot will puddle in the intake. When you get a backfire through the intake, this fuel ignites and blows a hole in the intake, or blows a chunk out of it. I'm pretty sure that Ratracer is using a dry setup. The dry setup is not a bad deal for ZR1s since they basically have 44lbs of injector per cylinder.
Be careful!
