It was attached to the front fender. I took the thing apart so that I could get to the screws that hold the radiator shroud. I'm gonna be replacing my radiator (any links to LT1 specific "how to" tech tips would be appreciated).
Anyway, what's it do? It has a sticker that says "do not repair - replace." If I ever have to replace it, is it expensive?
Oh, BTW it also says "made in USA." After reading Mojo's thread, I started paying attention to the made in USA notices on the parts as they come off. Funny thing is that there's a lot of "made in USA" coming off... but a lot of "made in (insert developing country here)" going back on in the form of aftermarket parts (even from GM).
That's the Headlamp Control Module. It's a solid state module that controls the operation of the headlamp door motors. Nothing inside is repairable so that's why it says to replace it if it goes south.
My mothers '98 went into the shop yesterday to get her headlights fixed and the headlight control module was the culprit. After the guy replaced it the car would start up and run but when the tires started to roll the engine would quit. We ended up having to take it to a dealer to have one of the computers re-flashed. I don't know if uplugging it on our c4s will do the same thing but I thought I might warn you. Her computer problem may have been caused by something else but all the guy said he done was do his test to make sure it was the module and then he unplugged the old one and plugged up the new one.
