Default Batwing Question

Hello

I have sitting in my garage right now a spare D36. I noticed that on top of the batwing there are two "little" isolated pieces of metal attached via torx head screw. Anyone have any idea wha these things are for? Balance/resonance reducers?

Thanks in advance

I thought they were bumpers ,but they don't touch anything.
Just a square piece of metal with a torks screw in the top.

I was wondering the same thing when I pulled my D36. I'd really like to know too.

I also wonder what they do. When I did my D36 to D44 installation I checked my Helms and was surprised that most of the detailed rear suspension illustrations/parts break outs don't even show them on the illustration. The C-Beam should act as a torque arm and keep the diff planted under acceleration and engine braking. Maybe they are there to limit the movement of the diff when the bushings are totally worn.

In any event I hope that someone has the real answer.

Mike

I don't want to sound like a *** or anything, but..

I can't see them being at all useful as any kind of stop. The amount of rubber is so small (in comparison to the one in the batwing), and doesn't really seem to be located in the correct orientation (I would expect that it would take little effort to limit/bottom it out if you pushed on it in the vertical direction.

Still, I may be wrong.....

I wonder if they aided the assembly process?

That appears to be the only real answer. The General built in a movement limiting device.

Another cosmic mystery! I would guess the same as you guys, bearing surface for when the rubber is maxed out.

I have pics, but am unable to post 'em.

I pulled one of these apart. It pressed apart quite easily. There is no way it could hold any amount of weight. Other than a small lip at the bottom, the rubber is about 1/8" thick, maybe 3/4" OD.

It's also in the wrong plane (cylinder of rubber is pointing horizontally) to be able to sustain any amount of weight.

I want to remove it, permanently.
