Should I pull the Plenum?
I pulled my TB off the other night in order to clean it, the IAC, etc.
Thought about pulling the plenum also well I'm at it, but decided against when it looked like the gasket kit for the plenum was going to be pricy.
Picked up the new TB gasket kit today.... and they had actually brought in the plenum kit AS WELL, because they wanted to be sure they were bringing in the right gaskets for me. Plenum kit was only $22.00 so I picked it up also.
Whaddayasay guys, should I pull and clean the plenum while I've got her apart? is ther anything particularly tricky about it. It appers to be pretty straight-forward.
(ps, for thsoe who read my post the other night, I have done the TB bypass as well, bought a little section of hose, a couple of clamps and a connector, and 2 caps for the inlet/outlet on the IAC.
TIA
I ended up with 2 TB gaskets...but they are slightly different, both in shape and material. I am wondering which one would be better to use.
The lighter one feels and looks more like cork (from NAPA) and doesn't seperate the 2 port holes, whereas the darker one (FelPro) feels more like a fibre product, and seperates the 2 ports.
Any thoughts on which is better.
I also picked up some gasket sealer/adhesive. Should I use this on all the gaskets?
THANKS GUYS!!!!!

It won't hurt, but those torx bolts are a BITCH.
Thanks Bogus,
Here is what she looked like when I took her apart the other night. Maybe I'll just save the plenum gasket kit for some point in the future when the plenum HAS to come off.
korvette4u suggested that I just leave it on and spray carb cleaner in there and that a lot of the build-up would burn out once I get her back together and running.
If that willa cheive a similar result that may be the way to go, rather than wrestling with the torx bolts.

When I rebuilt my engine last year the inside of my plenum, tubes and intake were coated with carbon! thats got to cause a restriction!

I would use the TB gasket that is shaped like the one that came out
of your engine.
As long as your throttle blades are clean and open/close properly,
it should run just fine.
If you do go to the trouble of removing your plenum,
then at least remove the two restrictions at the bottom of the opening in front. That will offer some performance return for the trouble of
the R+R. It won't be a fully ported plenum, but it'll help.
When I fixed the leaking front and rear intake seals, I used sealer on everything. I have read about too many times about vacuum leaks and decided I wasn't going to deal with that.

No, that stuff is blowby from the pcv system. The EGR won't foul the throttle body.
