I have a 96 auto with high miles, replaced the opti, entire ignition 1 1/2 years ago. Just got it out of storage last week, and noticed a slight miss when the car is in gear and stopped. I saw some arcing on the plug wires, so I just replaced the wires, plugs and coil a few nights ago.
Nothing changed, it still hesitates as it did before. What else could it be?
Could be, but even the slightest miss on a '96 should generate a code, so using an OB2 Reader to scan it may pinpoint the problem. Generally, if it's a 300, I'd suspect an injector or fuel problem; 301 to 308, ignition, though it might still be a clogged or weak injector, so I'd also check resistance across the injector terminals (hot & cold) for the identified cylinder. Also, check that the gas cap is on tight, especially if the problem is after the motor is warmed up or if it started after your last fillup.
C4 Corvettes are known for the drain from the gas tank filler boot plugging up -- this allows water to collect around the gas tank filler neck and seep into the tank.
When I wash my car, I always make sure I can see the water draining down that drain tube.
The other other thing I do is make sure water does not collect in the hood latch sockets on the body.
