Default Largest Oil Filters

I want to run the largest capacity oil filter possible, without having it hang below the bottom of the pan. I'm not running a factory type oil cooler adapter, so I can have a filter that is 7+ inches long, and not have it hang below the pan.

There is the AC PF35L and PF1218, but these are only 5 inches long. Then there is the monster PF932 and Fram PH373 but these are too long at 8 inches.

Is there any offerings between these sizes, or even something slightly bigger in diameter also?

I don't know the answer to your question, but I'd sure rather have a high quality filter than a bigger filter.

nothing easily available fits your needs. i don't know exactly how long they are, but donaldson a long filter, i believe tpis sells it. they might be 8", though.

in the wix racing series there's the 51794R, it's 7.8" long.

if you're interested in comparing the PF1218 filters:

looks like it's mostly flow vs filtration

FWIW, I use the AC Delco PF1218 filter on my 87 as it still does not go below the oil pan even with the factory oil cooler. It holds almost 3/4 quart (I fill my filter before I install it) so you do get some increase in the oil capacity. The "correct" AC Delco PF25 filter has been discontinued and I have not seen that AC Delco equal in other brands.

I had been told that there are only 3 major manufacturers of oil filters. WIX is one but I can't recall the other two right now (damn CRS!! ). A lot of brands are basically the same with simply different labels.

There was an earlier oil filter study done and it's still on the ZR-1 Net http://people.msoe.edu/~yoderw/oilfi...lterstudy.html What I found interesting was that FRAM really got slammed due to the poor quality of the filtering media and a lot of the members here still consider them to be garbage.

My engine is a LT1 and the filter I use is AC Delco UPF-52, which has excellent filtering media. If you want increased oil capacity, do it with an upgraded oil pan.
