94 Rear Bearing Help Needed
Hi Folks,
I would like to try to replace the rear hub assy myself instead of paying $300 for the bearing and $100 labor.
My local Pep Girls has the hub for $169. Sears has the 36mm socket for $7 and I have a T55 3/8 drive. Do you all think these tools will do the trick?
Any and all suggestions are appeciated
Thanks in advance for your time,
Chris

If you have an Autozone near, you can borrow a 36mm socket from them. Also you will need a torque wrench to torque things properly.

You may need an extension for the socket. I used a small piece of pipe that I placed over the ratchet handle to help break the 55.

i just replaced the hub on my 95. I pulled the 1/2 shaft out at the same time and replaced the U joints. With the 1/2 shaft out, those T55s werent too bad. The new hub ***. was $142 at Advance Auto. It was Federal Mongul brand. Made in USA. Total time invested was 7 hours. It wasnt too difficult.

Rear Bearing
I did mine last year. Bought the bearing at AutoZone, it was a Timken. It took about three hours. One of the T55's was a bit difficult to get to, but a few extensions did the trick. I didn't take out the half shaft as some have suggested. That would probably make the t55's easier to get to.
Overall, not too difficult. You do need a torque wrench. I think the large nut is torqued to 160 or 165 ft lbs.
