Default 87 6 way power seat problem

Hi All,

I have a couple of questions on my 6 way power seats on my 87.

When I got the car the seats worked perfectly. Since I dont adjust them very often I never moved the switch controls on either seat. When I recently tried to move the seats almost all of the functions don't now work.

One year ago-- all functions worked

Now -- Drivers seat, Total seat control, only forward and backward work. Passengers seat, Total seat control, only the forward function works.

Does anyone have a link or personal experience with the seats and switches that can give me a hand here ?

One thing I have noticed that, in general, the whole car seems to be suffering from contact corrosion or what ever. Could my seat controls be experiencing contact problems. I really dont want to spend the $ 100 per side to replace the control switches.

Best Regards to the forum

Don

What are the symptoms? Do the seats just not move at all, or do they make a grinding noise, etc....?

If they are just not moving, but making no noise I would suspect the contacts. Pull the lower seat cushions out and clean the contacts on the wire harness connector. If that doesn't work, pull the center console and clean the switches.

If it makes a grinding noise, it's time for new tracks, or try to rebuild the ones you have. There are no replaceable parts, so you'll have to improvise here.

A lot of times if you don't use a switch it will corrode the contacts and at that point will seem like it is completely broken. Cleaning the contacts and switches will help, if it doesn't you may want to start with looking for switches. I understand not using the functions once they are set as I just went through this with my power seats. Good luck...
