Does anyone have any tips on cleaning brake dust "stains" on stock '96 rims? The previous owner did not maintain these rims well at all. I tried Eagle One's rim cleaner-no real luck. Thanks
If you've got some 409, you might want to give it a try. I found it to work better than Fantastic or Simple Green. (We're talkin' 10 years ago, so the formula may have changed.)
I used some Mother's BILLET Polish for the first time last weekend and the stuff works great. Much better than their original Mother's which I used to think was the best.
The wheel is clear-coated so be careful with caustic chemicals. You can use some soft scotchbrite pads (blue ones) like the ones for non-stick cookware and wheel cleaner.
If the stains won't come out with cleaners, you may wind up having to take the tires off and have the wheels cleaned in a hot tank. They will have to be refinished but it might be worth the effort as long as there is no real road-rash on the lips of the rims.
