Is the 700r4 a direct swap for the 4L60 tranny in a 93 vette. I am asking because it is hard to find a rebuilt 4L60.I have read they are the same just different numbers.
I am just checking to find out what my options are when the tranny dies. It will cost over a grand for a rebuild but I can get a guarentied 700R4 for about 1/2 of that.
Same trans assuming you are getting a Vette one.
Make sure it is later than '88 model with the stronger factory upgrades.
Actually ,if the trans is going to be rebuilt or is rebuilt with the right parts you can use any 700R4 trans and just swap the tailshaft housing to your Vette one
There are slight differences in the output shaft lenght but with IRS it has no effect.
Later model car trans with the upgrades are easier to come by than a genuine Vette trans.

There is actually a difference in the internals i think. When i bought my new 700R i had them put the 5 pinion planetary gear setup with a cryoed shell rather than the stock 4 pinion planetary gear setup the 700R4 has.
I believe the 4L60E is basically a 700R4 with an electric valve body instead of hydraulic valves.
There is one difference I am aware of between 700R4's....there are different sized 2-4 servo pistons. Depending on what the application was the pistons are different. It directly affects the shift speed/holding force. For example, the Corvette has it's own size servo piston, 4x4 trucks have different sizes depending on the engine used. I changed the piston in my GMC 4x4 to the Corvette size and it made a huge difference in shift quality. So I guess what I'm saying is look for a Corvette transmission if you're going to replace yours.
93 was an odd year. As long as you have the black computer, you don't have the 4L60e. Silver computer = 4L60e. The "e" is for electronic, but most 93's were not equiped with them. As for direct swap, I don't know.
