Default Fuel filter change '92

Time to change my fuel filter. According to Haynes it says to remove the fuel pump fuse, run the engine still it stalls then change the filter. This sounds a bit dramatic - I never like to starve an engine of fuel.

What does everyone else do?

That is correct. The fuel filter is located under the car... and it will spray gas everywhere.

Pull the fuse, start the car, let it starve dry.

Then, remove the cap to release vacuum pressure.

Jack up the car and remove the filter. Becareful not to loose the rubber o-rings that are on the end of the lines.

Fuel filter changed yesterday. I managed to solve all the challenges presented by the guy or gal who designed to put the fuel filter there.. I guess it was originally designed there before the convertible x-brace was added......

My only option was to buy a 16mm crows-foot wrench (essentially a wrench without a handle) and force my arm over the top of the cat and between the starter motor and work on the top nut 'blind'.

So today I have the satisfaction of a new fuel filter and lots of scratches and bruises. I love my car...

As I recall, you can remove the pass side inner fender well in about 10 minutes or less. That will allow you to reach the upper nut on the fuel filter a whole bunch easier.

First time I had a mixture of blood and gasoline on my hands so the next time I let Jiffy Lube do it.
