Default Difference between 1087 and 1988???

I am considering the purchase of a 1988 Mem-cal for my 1987 L-98. I don't know of any major changes in 1988 (from 1987), and I know it's the same mask, but the seller of the mem-cal says there were instructions with it when he got it stating that it is not interchangeable with any other year.
Can anyone tell me of any reason I could not be able to use this???

An 88 memcal should work just fine for 1986-1988.. In 89 the CSI was eliminated and in 85, different ECM. But from 86-89 they all used the same 165 ECM.

I used to run an 86 chip in my 87 all the time. The OD light in thr center of the tach stayed on though.
